Understanding And Coping With The Grief Of A Broken Relationship

A broken relationship can often result in grief and pain. The degree of which a person will hurt from the loss of a relationship can depend on many factors. For some the grief from a broken relationship is minimal. This may be because they did not have the same amount of emotional investment in the relationship as someone else did.

Whether you have been involved in a short or long term relationship you can still experience a great deal of grief if the relationship ends. Some people are very giving by nature. They give themselves emotionally to the other person in the relationship early on. They have opened themselves up to this person. They have a loving, giving spirit and they make this available to their partner. In a sense they have invested a great deal of emotion in the relationship in the short term.

For those involved in a long term relationship many facets of involvement exist including the spiritual, emotional and financial. You may have spent a lifetime with that one person and life with them has become all that you know. When that is taken away from you the grief from the broken relationship can become quite overwhelming. Suddenly you have to redefine yourself and create a new life. Regardless of the amount of time you have invested in relationship the loss can be devastating.

So coping with the grief of a broken relationship and understanding it can allow you to turn the painful experience into an opportunity. The end of the relationship may be a trigger for you to start a new chapter in your life. To begin again in a different way. To explore new challenges and opportunities that you may not have pursued otherwise.

Accept the fact that you will hurt as a result of the broken relationship but understand that the pain will get better. Look beyond the initial feelings that you are experiencing and realize that your current situation is only temporary. You now have a chance to create new opportunities.
