So you have found Ms. Right and she said yes and loved the engagement ring and you have set the date and made all announcements to the family. The next step on your way to the church altar is either finding a custom made wedding ring or you could always make your own wedding ring. There are many jewelers who are able to custom make your wedding ring to match the engagement ring.
In making the perfect wedding ring the couple needs to be great communicators; this is will be helpful in the marriage also. They need to be specific in what they expect from the jewelers. The couple also has to have an idea of what the custom made wedding ring will look like. Great custom made wedding rings are not just created by great jewelers, but by great communicators as well.
The Anatomy of Wedding Ring Design
In selecting the jewelers, the couple should look at their portfolio of any previous work. Also make sure you work well with the jeweler. The next step in creating your custom made wedding ring is meet the person making the custom ring as these will probably be two different people. Have a joint discussion between the couple and the designer and the craftsman and take note on how the designer and craftsman work together also.
There are credentials that help determine how qualified the jeweler is in making the custom made wedding ring. One such credential is the Jewelers of America Masters program. If your jeweler holds this title, then you as a couple can be assured that the jeweler has had the best training in the area of custom made wedding rings. The next step in the making of the customized ring is that the jeweler will first create a concept of the custom made wedding ring when the concept meets approval the jeweler will give the sketch or counter model to the model maker.
Model Behavior
The model maker will then make a wax prototype of the custom made wedding ring based on the counter sketches .The model maker needs to take into account the engagement ring also so the two rings will compliment each other. With the wax model if there are changes to be made to the custom made wedding ring it will be easy as the wax is easy to change.
After approval of the final prototype, the jeweler will make the mold out of wax. The wax prototype is placed in a flask and filled with plaster. Once the plaster hardens, the flask is placed in the oven where the wax is burnt out leaving a cavity of the exact impression of the design.
Then the flask is injected with molten metal. Once the metal is allowed to cool the plaster is broken away leaving you with a casting of the jewelry design. The casting is then filed, polished, and the final stage of the custom made wedding ring begins. Before you know it, your beautiful ring is ready to go.
