What is a NTDLL Error?


Ntdll.dll is a native API file of the Windows operating systems which has NT kernel functions. Depending on your operating system version, ntdll.dll is located in the C:WindowsSystem32, C:WinntSystem32, or C:i386 folder.

What is the cause of 'Unknown NTDLL.DLL Error'?

Ntdll.dll errors are caused by various registry issues. Here are a few: a poorly written or outdated device driver, a bad application plugin, a malfunctioning application etc.

Ntdll.dll error also happen when your PC comes across an unknown hard drive error. When this happens, Windows crashes and you are left with little choice than to reboot the computer and lose a few hours' work.

These registry errors may cause Internet explorer and Windows explorer problems and simply make your computer unstable.

How To Fix NTDLL Errors?

1 - Most NTDLL errors are once-off errors. They tend to disappear once you reboot the computer. A word of caution though: if the error is caused by a more serious, hardware-related issue, you should expect the error to crop up after some time.

2 - Uninstall all the recent applications. If you notice that NTDLL.DLL errors have occurred after installing a specific application, remove it and see if the issue is not resolved.

3 - Check and update your device drivers. If certain devices are using outdated drivers, this may be the cause of ntdll errors. Try, as fas as possible to get your device drivers directly from the vendor instead of download third-party drivers (which may come with issues of their own).

4 - Disable one by one internet add-ons. This often resolves NTDLL errors that crop up every time you start internet explorer.

5 - If the DLL file itself is missing, you can always download NTDLL replacement online.
