Untraditional First Date Ideas - Great Gay First Dates In The Long Beach Area
First dates are critical. Whether you scored one with that hottie at the gym you’ve been eyeing for months, or are arranging one with a match through your same-sex dating service, where you go and what you do can mean the difference between a goodnight kiss and the cold shoulder. But, if you’re sick of traditional dates – dinner and a movie or meeting for coffee, and want to make a great first impression, consider one of these alternative date ideas for a fun and romantic gay dating experience.
Break a sweat
Getting physical (not in a sexual way, it’s too soon for that) on a first date can ease your nerves, make you laugh and start a special connection. Take a private dance lesson, shoot some hoops, jog along the Long Beach shoreline or go to a yoga class together. If the date goes well, this activity may even become one you do together on a regular basis. Grab a smoothie or an ice-cream cone together to cool off afterward.
Ride the roller coasters at the amusement park
There’s no better way to loosen up on a first date than by having some fun at an amusement park. Try Disneyland or Universal Studios for a day. You’ll learn a lot about your new love interest by bringing out the child within and by the types of roller coasters they enjoy. Is your date a daredevil or a scaredy-cat? If the latter, it’s a great opportunity for you to make some physical contact with a comforting hug.
Pack a picnic and head to the beach
Spend a day at the beach with sand between your toes, your bodies glistening in the sun and a surprise picnic. Pack up a picnic basket with your favorite wine, sandwiches and a tasty dessert to share and head to one of the sandy beaches near downtown Long Beach: Naples, Belmont Shore or Long Beach Peninsula. This is a perfect way to connect romantically on your first date with some good food, conversation and a sneak peek at your date’s bod.
Live it up celebrity style
Spend a day downtown living like a celebrity couple. Hit all the high-end stores and try on designer clothes or get pampered at an urban spa and end off the day with dinner at a classy restaurant or wine bar – there are many to choose from in downtown Long Beach. If the chemistry is there, opt to stay at a hotel, enjoy some time in the hot tub and breakfast in bed the next morning.
Take in some live music
Going out later in the evening for a couple drinks, some grub and good live tunes is a great casual first date option. Long Beach has many live music venues located along Pine Avenue from 4th Street to the Pike and Shoreline Village. Choose one or check out a couple different venues and music genres – blues, jazz, rock – whatever floats your boat. You’ll get to know what types of music your date enjoys which can reveal a lot about their personality and you could even end of the date with some dancing.
