Use Remote Servers For Improved Site Integrity
There are many sources of online data storage and retrieval giving the user the ability to secure their data on remote servers for a monthly fee. While a dedicated server for secure data storage is more expensive than sharing a server with other people or companies, it is also more expensive. For these reasons, many people choose to use colocated hosting at a remote site. Businesses typically have a much larger amount of data to store than personal users. It is not uncommon for even small businesses to require the storage of several terabytes of data, particularly if they have video storage requirements. Mid-size business may even have several hundred terabytes of data that needs storage. As a business example, retail establishments usually have a need to back up their daily sales and customer data securely in case of local server failure, which can occur for numerous reasons. Local business computers can malfunction and result in the loss of valuable and sensitive data that will have a negative impact on business operations. For businesses, especially businesses with an online presence, it will most likely be advantageous to utilize, what is called, server colocation. When utilizing collocated hosting, you do not maintain a local server, the server and all your secure data are maintained at a remote site that has redundant server and power back up capabilities in place. These collocated server sites are generally highly secure and have numerous backup systems, including power backup and redundant servers to insure that your data is secure and your customers have access to your corporate web server at all times. For most businesses, it is very important to have complete control over who can access their data and how access is obtained. In this event, they may own their own secure data storage server offsite with access to the encrypted files limited to one or two people Numerous individuals may have limited access to certain files, however access to backup data is most often strictly controlled. Several do not even allow the system administrator access to the backup files in secure data storage as a means of protecting them from potential liability.
