Used Gaming Laptops: How Much Do You Need?

So, you're looking into buying a gaming laptop. This is becoming an increasingly popular choice as gaming has transcended its antisocial tendencies and become a full blown social event. Dragging a full sized tower and monitor to a LAN part isn't anyone's idea of a good time. To solve this problem, many have turned to high performance gaming laptops to solve this problem.

However, those who do quickly find out how expensive these types of machines really are. Because they attempt to cram the latest in high performance gaming hardware into a very small space, the cost of gaming laptops can be sky high. What is the gamer on a budget to do?

Unfortunately, if you want to play the latest and greatest games, and can't afford a brand new, high end gaming laptop, you're pretty much stuck with a desktop. The latest and great games absolutely demand cutting edge hardware, and there is no way around it.

However, if your needs are a little less, you might be able to save big with a used gaming laptop. Say you just like to play a little World of Warcraft on the go. An older gaming machine can handle this just fine. Still playing Starcraft after all these years? Heck, you don't even need a new machine for that. Many other popular multi player games don't really require that beefy of a system, and thats where you can save money by buying used.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you can get just any machine. Buying used laptops specifically designed for gaming will get you much more mileage than a regular business laptop. In particular, make sure that you have lots of RAM and a quality, fairly modern, dedicated 3D graphics card. Without a dedicated 3D card, even the oldest games will run sluggishly. Any easy way to make sure you're getting a quality gaming machine is to buy from well known companies, such as Alienware and Dell XPS.

As you can see, there is never a simple answer when it comes to these sorts of things. You can either spend a ton of money and get a brand new, blazing fast gaming laptop, or you can save money and get a used gaming laptop that won't be able to play as many games. It's your choice, but you owe to yourself to check out all of the options. Thanks for reading.
