Used machines, second hand electronic tools and products, entire factories are bought by developing countries from Europe and USA. In order to save money, less rich countries import still working but second hand technologies and factories,and a study is trying to understand ow this is something good from an economical point of view but negative for environment.

The first results of the study in fact show how the use of old technologies extends the period in which pollution could be reduced. Exporting technologies that in developed countries are considered out-of-date actually put off developing country from adopting non polluting and environment respectful technologies.

This study in fact demonstrates that in the last years buying and selling old machineries and materials has allowed the economic growth of these poor countries, who get into this businesses due to their lack of capitals. Buying technologies from Western countries proved to be a really good business, because rejects of obsolete technology from Western industry has given them the chance to use technologies far beyond their limits

But buying out-of-date technologies can increase pollution and put on a second level the priority of reducing it. The problem seems to be the fact that old materials and machines need a higher physical effort of the user, not only because they need more frequent reparations but also because they are less automated.
