Using Meditation To Deal With Stress

The workplace is one of the primary sources of stress in our lives. An impossible assignment, pollution in and out of the office, inconsiderate workmates can all combine to make for a stressful day.

It can be difficult to take time off from busy schedule. Taking a break may become necessary if stress is piling up to the point where it is effecting performance. If it is not possible to take time off, integrating a proper stress management routine can help keep us meet daily challenges.

Plan on meeting the challenge one step at a time. It can be helpful to begin the challenge of controlling stress by writing down the primary causes with the intent of addressing them one at a time. This can take time, it is unlikely everything can be fixed quickly. As stress builds it does little good to rant and rave at fellow workers. Taking a short break to get a drink or a short walk can provide enough time to calm down and put things in perspective.

Stress can be more than just mental, it may also have physical effects if left unchecked. Breathing exercises can be very beneficial in helping a person calm down and get control of their emotions. Adding to this simple meditation techniques that push worrisome thoughts out of the mind can help improve focus. Getting regular exercise while not at work is probably the simplest and most effective things a person can do to reduce the affects of stress. Especially when the source of stress cannot be controlled.

If you are a self-described workaholic than you probably pride yourself on your work ethic. However, if the pressure to perform is mounting, it is important to be aware that there can be damaging physical consequences. These can be severe even for young people. Don't forget to take time for yourself by getting a massage once in a while. Just enjoying a hot tub or sauna can be rejuvenating. In addition it might be helpful to consider a high-potency complex of B vitamins. These vitamins contribute to the health of the nervous system and also play a role in energy metabolism in the body. The B complex is sometimes referred to as "feel good" vitamins.

Meditation for stress control.

Having a lot of stress in our lives can make it difficult to focus, the subsequent mistakes then add more stress and the cycle continues. Many people find that regular meditation can help achieve a calm state of mind. It is unlikely that a person who hasn't practiced meditation before will quickly get the desired results. It takes practice to condition the mind to relax. The following guidelines may be helpful.

1. Find a quiet place with no distractions. The less noise the better because our sense the hearing becomes more acute when our eyes are closed. With practice it becomes easier to shut out surrounding sounds and the need isolation is reduced. In the beginning it is best to practice at home.

2. Position is important. Sitting upright either on chair or with the legs crossed on the floor is better than lying down. As the mind relaxes you will almost certainly fall asleep if you are not sitting upright.

3. Meditation starts with breathing. By inhaling through the nose and out through the mouth we establish a rhythm to focus on. This should become natural with time and practice.

4.Your mind will begin to produce somewhat random thoughts such as people you know, places, buildings, sounds, colors, etc. It is important not to ignore these images, allow them to come and go without focusing on them. Do not push them away or hold on, just go from one thought to the next naturally.

After a while these random thoughts will stop and you will reach a blank place. Only now can you begin the process of problem solving. Thinking about what you need to do and hoe you will do it.

After this you will feel refreshed and focused. You will be much better prepared to handle the challenges of the day.
