Using Replacement Water Filter Systems With Cartridges
Faucet Attachments and Other Single Sink Models
There are a variety of water filtration devices available for singe faucets and sinks. Some of these are installed under sinks, and some are attached right to the faucet itself. Regardless of the type of single sink filter you are using, you will probably have to replace the cartridge occasionally. Since the replacement schedule of many replacement water filter cartridges is based on number of gallons of water filtered, knowing when to replace a cartridge can be difficult.
One of the easiest ways to know when a replacement water filter needs replacing is if your sink suddenly looses water pressure. When the filter becomes clogged with particles, the water will not be able to flow through, and you won’t get a good stream out of your faucet. Filters that have a high micron filtering ability can sometimes be used again once they’ve been clogged by simply rinsing them out. Good quality replacement water filters that filter out particularly minute particles will not be helped by rinsing.
Water beginning to smell bad or taste bad is another sign that the filter system needs a new replacement water filter. Of course, you may want to replace the filter before this happens. Since a standard household uses approximately six hundred gallon per month through the kitchen faucet, you may want to change the filter each month or two. Most replacement water filters need changing between six hundred and twelve hundred galleons.
Entire Home Systems
An option to the single sink filter is the system which filters water for your entire house. Many people use these systems because of particularly poor water quality or due to hard water. These units are better suited to get rid of water issues that cause discoloration in clothing when it is washed, or irritation to the skin.
Since a water filter used for the entire house will have to pass more microns than a sink filter, these filters can almost always be rinsed to prolong use. The reason these filters have to pass more microns is to allow enough pressure to get water throughout the entire home.
If you notice the water pressure dropping at any point in your home, you may need to check the replacement water filter of your unit. Although you can rinse the replacement water filter out for more use, you don’t want to do this more than once as it can cause damage to your filtration system. The filter for an entire house can last up to four months of constant use.
