Vertical Blinds – A Stand-up Proposition

Aside from venetian blinds, vertical blinds are perhaps the most well-known. Vertical blinds look wonderful and are perfect for the person who likes to set the mood of a room by changing how much light gets let in. While not often as customizable as other types of blinds, they are a popular choice for homeowners, mostly because they let people choose exactly how much light is allowed in a room. This choice can lead to all sorts of lighting effects that aren’t possible with other types of windows blinds.

Vertical blinds, while being the most unique of windows blinds, are also the most difficult to maintain. To clean them, you have to unclip the bottom chain and remove the weights that are holding the blinds down. Then, you have to remove the clip on the blinds, lay them on a smooth surface and clean using a gentle detergent applied with a moist cloth. Afterwards, you hang them out to dry and replace everything. Of course, the process is much simpler if you order a material that can be machine washed, but the ultimate choice is up to you. Using these blinds is the same as using standard venetian blinds, except that the slats have to be in the “open” position in order for the blinds to move.

Depending on how many hands you have available, installing vertical blinds can be easy or difficult. To install these blinds, screw in the brackets and snap the head rail of the blinds in place. Next, hang the louvers of the blinds from the appropriate hooks. Attach the chains at the bottom and move the weights into place and, if everything worked out, you should be finished. Because they are so big, it is best to have a second person on hand when installing these blinds.

Just like any other window blinds, there are certain situations where vertical blinds work better than other types. Because they are made of fabric, you probably wouldn’t use these in an area with a lot of water, like a bathroom. In the living room and dining room areas, however, vertical blinds are the norm, mostly because they are versatile and they disguise any pre-existing imperfections in the area. However, before you choose these blinds you have to take your overall room design and your furniture style into account.
