Victoria City

The city is designed in the old English style and it is very pleasant to visit. The focal point of this city is the Inner Harbor which is faced by the grand parliament Building, erected in 1897. This English styled building features a massive dome on which a figure of Captain Georges Vancouver, the first British navigator to circle the island, stands. A gold statue of Queen Victoria who chose the name of the province can be found on the grounds that surround the popular structure. The distinct and refined Empress Hotel which was built in 1905 is also in this area. The hotel is so renowned for its fancy tea service that it schedules three sittings for afternoon tea. For teat with different surroundings many visit the upper terrace at Crystal Gardens.

The gardens feature an array of tropical plants, reptiles and exotic birds. Of course Butchart gardens feature the most famous gardens on the island with the popular Sunken Garden and Rose Garden. For beautiful sights of a different kind the Emily Carr gallery is dedicated to the works of Victoria best known painter.


British Columbia mainland offers scenery at its best. Half of the province is covered by productive forests. Closer to the western part of the province not far from Vancouver are the mountains of Blackcomb, Whistler and Grouse. All three are popular ski spots and excellent summer resorts as well.

The eastern part of the province features the incredible Rocky Mountains while the southern British Columbia is somewhat pastoral. Sparkling lakes, attractive beaches, orchards and vine yards along with a great amount of sun, make this a popular tourist destination.
