If you’re anything like my teenage sons you spend hours thinking about, talking or playing video games. With the invention of the Playstation 3, XBOX360 and the Wii, gaming is being taken to the next level. There are games grownups can get into too but usually work gets in the way of having an all night marathon playing online against other people around the world. The graphics in these games are what make them so attractive but having a comfortable place to sit while you play is one of the most important aspects even though so few people actually think about it. Sitting in an uncomfortable chair will ruin just about any game. Here are some ideas to consider when thinking about a video gaming chair of your own.

Desk chairs offered for sale at office supply stores are by far the most inexpensive. For under $50 you’ll be able to have a chair but it will offer little comfort past that. Can you imagine playing Modern Warfare 2, sitting in desk chair? These chairs are usually stiff and could give you a bad back depending on how long you sit in them. Also, only one person can sit in them at a time so if multiple people want to play a game together you’d need to pay for multiple chairs which can get expensive and take up a lot of space.

Next are dedicated gaming seats. These aren’t chairs because they don’t have a stand or base. They sit on the flow and allow you to sit up in a reclined position while you play. Some of these models have audio-in jacks so you can pipe the sounds from your game into the chair to enhance the game playing experience. These chairs are popular for racing games such as Gran Turismo 5, Need For Speed Shift and Nascar 2010. As many people are choosing to mount their television on a wall or above a fireplace the low sitting height of these chairs may make it difficult to see what’s actually going on in the game.

Another option many people don’t consider is a bean bag chair. The oversized pieces of furniture come in multiple sizes allowing you to get one large enough to fit one person or to host your own tournament. An example of such a chair is a Comfy Sack.
