According to statistics collected by TubeMogul, video advertising accounted for 12.5 percent of American’s total time spent on the Internet, viewing a total of 4.5 trillion ads! When the average Internet user watches more than 2,000 video advertisements each month you have to question whether or not the typical print or static web advertisement can give you the same “bang” for your marketing buck.

Let’s face it since the inception of Television human beings have been drawn by visual images. Television commercials were quick to replace print ads, and web videos will do the same to your traditional PPCs. According to Yellow Pages, eight percent of web users have stated that they watched an entire (web) video advertisement, with fifty-two percent of them stating that they were then prompted to click on the ad. That’s over half of the respondents surveyed!

A powerful video advertisement can boost sales in ways that a word-only PPC cannot do for your website. People would much rather watch an entertaining video than read through a bunch of words—regardless of how compelling it is. People want to read books, stories, and gossip. They don’t want to read ads.

If you wish to boost traffic for your website, or increase sales of your product you need to reach people using visual imagery. According to Comscore, 5.4 billion ads were watched by web users in November. If that isn’t enough to convince anyone that online video advertisements are here to stay then perhaps nothing will.

Most web video advertisements will go for a price range between $750 and $1500, more hefty than online copy, but nowhere near the price of televised advertisements. Considering the number of users they reach, this is truly a bargain. Television commercials cost 5 times as much as a web commercial and only reach marginally more viewers.

If you’re still unconvinced, run a search on “video editing” and see how many hits come up for companies that specialize in graphical commercials for the web. It’s a phenomenal growth market and can only grow larger.
