Visit The Northern Ports Of Europe On A Weekend Cruise

Europe is a great place to visit and there is no better way to enjoy the ports of Northern Europe than while being pampered on a cruise ship.

Although the Caribbean and Mediterranean are typical destinations to visit on a cruise ship, northern Europe is also a great choice as, due to its proximity to the UK, it is easier to take a short cruise.

Southampton is a popular port to embark on a holiday from and Cunard Cruises offer some great deals for holidaymakers all over the world and in particular – in northern Europe.

There are a variety of destinations that you can visit from the Bay of Biscay to northern Spain and western France, where you can spend some time in the fascinating cities of Bordeaux, Lisbon and Biarritz.

Other fabulous cruise deals from Southampton include a roundtrip of 13 nights to New York on the Queen Mary 2 and a 12 night stay in the Caribbean on the Queen Mary.

But there are also shorter holidays available like the weekend getaway for four nights on the Queen Victoria visiting Paris, Amsterdam and Bruges.

If you are even more pressed for time, but want to experience the highlights of a cruise trip, then a two-day visit to Bruges is ideal.

Not only can you enjoy the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site, but travelling there is guaranteed to be a luxurious holiday in itself.

From Southampton, you can hop aboard the ship and be entertained throughout the day and into the evening.

The ship is all-inclusive, so enjoy snacks and meals as it cruises onward to Belgium.

It has a gym and a spa centre, so keeping trim and entertained will not be a problem, and the kids can spend hours on the scalextric track while you enjoy being pampered and have a good work out.

Some highlights of Bruge, which is known as the Venice of the north, include the historic city centre.

The city has a lot to offer such as the Church of Our Lady, with its impressive brick spire and Michelangelo sculpture inside.

Another highlight is the 13th century belfry which, with its 48 bells, is the city's most famous landmark and a must-see for tourists, alongside the Basilica and the Beguinage.

The town has a plethora of attractions and buildings to visit, but it is also worth strolling around the streets and soaking up the atmosphere, doing a spot of shopping - including a visit to a chocolatier - and enjoying a coffee in one of the many street-side cafes.
