Vitamin Supplements Online

Now days, there is a vast array of vitamin supplements online. The pundits of alternative health advertise the benefits of different types of vitamins. There are different types of calcium supplements, different ways of packaging vitamin C and many different forms of the vitamin B complex. But how good are they, really – and do we really need so many vitamin supplements?

Strictly speaking, if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and eat a balanced diet, most children and adults should be getting all the vitamins that they need. Older people may need calcium supplements and extra vitamin C because bones get more brittle as we grow older. This means that they are more likely to break as the result of a heavy knock or fall. Vitamin C is sometimes difficult to absorb, particularly for older smokers or ex smokers. A doctor may suggest that older people take either calcium or vitamin C or both – more, usually. Multi-vitamin supplements might also be suggested.

Others who may need to take vitamin supplements are pregnant women. The growing baby can absorb quite a substantial amount of the mother’s vitamin intake, so it is often advisable to take supplements. In the past, such supplements were given to expectant mothers routinely, particularly folic acid and iron tablets. Even if you are healthily pregnant, it is advisable to take at least the folic acid and iron as your energy and red blood cells may be depleted at this time.

Online vitamin supplements may vary. There are, for instance, a number of sites that offer bone and joint supplements. These are meant to help people with the physiological changes that occur as a result of aging. Some people find that they are helpful but medical practitioners cannot agree as to their usefulness. With some GPs remaining convinced that all users actually get from them is the placebo effect – i.e. the very act of taking the supplement makes them feel better, not necessarily what is in the product.

There is also an array of health drinks and vitamin beverages. Makers claim that these are vital if you are to achieve a well balanced bodily system. There are many testimonials from satisfied customers and, although these are probably true, some of the claims that are made for vitamin supplements online may be a bit over the top.

This is not to say that vitamin supplements online are a scam. Most of them are harmless but it is a good idea to check with your doctor before taking online vitamin supplements as they may interfere with other medications.
