Elvis sang about it, Frank and the boys made it their playground and The Mob reportedly ran it, we are talking about Las Vegas of course! Situated in the Nevada Desert, Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the world regenerating every 4 years. Las Vegas, meaning the fertile plain, is famous for its vast amount of casinos and being a 24/7 party town. If you’ve been to Las Vegas you will probably agree that it is as “Fabulous” as the sign says it is.
You can´t leave Las Vegas without having a spin on the many available casino slots, a hand of blackjack, a throw of the dice on the craps table or a bet at the roulette wheel. The chances of hitting the million dollar jackpot on a slot machine are slim but it does happen occasionally and when it does everyone knows about it. Las Vegas is responsible for making a handful of people over night millionaires and for breaking the hearts and dreams of so many.
For those living in Europe, it is a long way to travel to lose your shirt but a short way to win that million. Of course, there are always online casinos but they are not quite the real thing. To be honest, nothing is quite like Vegas. Thankfully for us Europeans that like the thrills of casino games, Las Vegas is coming to see us. Yes, it is true! Plans to build a Las Vegas style city have been approved by the regional government of Aragon, situated in the north-east of Spain.
The project is said to cost £12 billion and span 5,000 acres with 32 casino/hotels, 5 theme parks a stadium, conference center and even a bullring (well, it is Spain). This huge project is estimated to take 10 years to complete and has been called Gran Escala.
The casinos are said to have different themes spanning various times in history. Have your cards dealt to you by a Roman soldier or see a caveman spin the roulette wheel. One of the theme parks is reportedly to be called Spyland with a James Bond theme. This sounds too good to be true to me.
The size of the project should make Disneyland in Paris look tiny in comparison and being quite central in Europe will only take an average of 2 hours to get there by plane. The project should create around 30,000 jobs and boost the Spanish economy. An estimated 12million visitors are expected every year.
I am personally looking forward to seeing this project in action and as a fan of theme parks and James Bond I will be in heaven. Vive Las Vegas!
