Vocal contests are considered to be the most watched and most loved contests there is. People enjoy seeing belters and crooners battle it out with amazing vocal style, power and prowess. Entertainment at its best- that's how these competitions are considered by most people and as we know, singing has been the oldest past time and passion of the world. Humans, being naturally inclined to musicality, just love the idea of contests of such talent. Almost every country in the world has their own versions of singing contests. There's American Idol, Australian Idol, Britain's Got Talent, Philippine Idol and a lot more. You readers can probably add a whole lot more, just fill up the line: _______ Idol. These contests are so blown up by the media that almost everybody has the slightest idea of how these contests go.

So why are vocal competitions such hit when it comes to the mass? Wherever you go in the world, it seems as if every country has their own version of "Singing Idol" contests on television, usually the most celebrated, most highly commercialized, best loved reality shows there is. They create a whole new meaning of the word phenomenon, creating legions of fans, fuelling raging mad forums on the internet, raking in millions of dollars for networks, skyrocketing careers of winners and sometimes better careers of runner-ups and last but not the least, creating a magnitude of hate mails sent to judges who are just too full of nasty comments.

Vocal competitions are so appealing to because the idea of people singing their brains out on stage and the sight of performers' veins popping out of their temples seem to excite most people. The un of watching contestants on the verge of losing their consciousness from stage fright or joining in the thrill of waiting for them to hit or badly miss a note give viewers immense glee.

Also, part of the excitement of these contests is that we get to see every angle of the performance. Amazing vocal prowess is not the only thing considered. Being the gory competition that it is, contestants need to have star appeal to be able to survive. It is not just about talent, but the charisma, the ability to awe audience even just with the stage presence, and double awe them once melody comes out of their mouths. The issue of star quality over voice quality is sometimes hyped up but nonetheless, in the end, those who can really sing and at the same time possesses star qualities emerge as champions.

Vocal contests even stand center in today's pop culture. It has created frenzied fans because new talents and soon-to-be stars are discovered in these shows. The idea of simple country girls joining huge nationwide singing contest then emerging as champion, now living the high life inspire most people. Through vocal competitions, we see how the dreams of these aspirants are fulfilled, and the way those dreams were fulfilled, in manners that are nowhere near comfort or ease, inspire us even more. As much as others would deny it, success stories are very appealing elements. Struggles which bring out the best in people are something people would like to witness. And what better way to show such stories of roads to success than to watch vocal competitions. We admit, we are inspired to see people who are out there, ready for anything that will hit them, in the name of the dream that they badly want to go for.
