Wsop 2011. Are You Ready For It?
Running from May 31st until middle of July this year WSOP is not only a dream for every poker play but a marathon as well so if you are a part of the action you must be well prepared physically and mentally for a lot of hard work and realize that playing WSOP is as much about endurance as it is about poker. Unfortunately not many players realize this and stay unprepared for what is ahead of them. If you are taking part in the $10,000 buy-in Main Event and all going well, you must be prepared to play every day 16 hours per day with full focus and concentration, there will be very little left to clear your mind and rest. The best way to look at WSOP as a poker marathon, therefore in order to succeed, you must be ready for it before you board the plane. Just like training to run a marathon you should start getting into shape well in advance and spend the next few very precious days to get into top mental and physical state. To start with you should gradually increase the number of hours you play while being careful not to overtire yourself in preparation. Doubling up your hours in one day is not a good idea and will lead to nothing but loosing results. Try to build up your hours a little bit at a time and stop when you feel that your concentration is slipping away. Exactly like training for marathon you should never push yourself for the whole 16 hours play, no marathon runner attempts to cover the whole distance in the few days left before the event. Your main goal now should be staying sharp, fit and focused. If you are mainly a ring-poker player now is the time to concentrate on playing tournaments only. As you very well know strategy of playing tournaments is completely different, especially at the later stages of the tournaments. Stop multi tabling and play one table only keeping your full concentration on action in front of you, this is what you will be doing in Vegas as in live poker you can’t be at two tables at once. If you usually play poker online and got your seat through one of online poker promotions, it is time to visit your local casino and get familiar with live poker events and tournaments as well as casino atmosphere and etiquette. First time in a casino can be overwhelming for anyone and getting used to it now can make a difference to success and improve your chances to go past Day1. It is also worth to mention that playing poker live is a lot slower than playing online as a dealer has to shuffle, deal and collect the cards, calculate split pots and do all other things that online players take for granted. So you must be prepared for this and not let your mind wander away and get bored. In the last few days before your trip it is very important to keep in the top physical form. Make sure you have plenty of rest and enough sleep every night. Keep doing plenty of exercise, especially of aerobic type, running, football, tennis are all perfect and will not only keep you in good shape, essential for playing long hours day after day, but will sharpen and clear your mind. Drink loads of water to stay hydrated and cut down on alcohol and caffeine. Eat sensibly, cut out junk food and don’t go hungry. It is best to have smaller meals and have healthy snacks in between than big meals that will only leave feeling sleepy. When you arrive to Las Vegas remember that you are there to play poker and hopefully win the prize money. Although it may be hard not to get carried away with all the excitement that Sin City has to offer, try to stick to healthy exercise and eating habits, have enough sleep to maintain your stamina and keep your full concentration.
