Watch Repair, Manufacturers Vs. Privately Run Repair Shops

Your automobile is a major investment. You depend on it and as a result it is of much value. When anything goes wrong with your automobileyou will want someone to repair it who knows what he or she is doing.Well, in that respect, a luxury watch is the same and watch repair is a serious matter.

In fact, in some cases a wristwatchis a much more sound investment than a car! It will keep it's value better and will certainlybe sold some years later for a profitable amount. BUT, that's only if that watch is in great shape or even "like new". Thus, the routine care for a fine timepieceand it'soccasionalwatch repair needs, are most important.

So... what should you do? Where do you ship your watch? Who can be trusted with the care and repair of it? Do you ship it off to the factory? Or maybe some local repair shop you heard about?

In some cases it would make sense to send it in to the manufacturer even after the manufacturers warranty has expired. You know that they'll have all of the correct watch repair parts needed and if anything goes too wrong, you could get a new replacement watch (unlikely). But the draw backs to shipping your watch in to the manufacturer are that the service can be impersonal and timely. Manufacturers are not known for being concerned with timeliness or customer service. In point of fact, manufacturers can be incredibly good to work with... however, the net isliterally littered with bad reviews aboutmanufacturersmistreatment of customers. You would do well to to do the research yourself before deciding.

Here's my recommendation. Find an easy to research andtrust-able jewelry store that has a full-time in house watch maker or certified watch repairman ( find one in your area if possible, if not just be sure to insure your watch in shipment ). There are two reasons I will recite here that you should use a retail watch repair service like I just did:

You'll experience customer care in spades because return business is the foundation of their business model.
You'll know service with a sense of urgency... so when you say, "I need this watch back by Tuesday for an event I'm attending", the store will bend over backwards to make sure you get that watch back on time!

So, in my experience, giving my money to a reputable repair shop that I reviewed online was by far more time and cost efficient and the only trick was choosing the RIGHT shop.

Save money and time by using a shop that returns your calls and values your business. I have taken the time to research in-house watch repair retailers and have found that the most trusted and highest rated retailer was located in Boca Raton, Florida.
