Waterloo Off Campus Housing: Tips For A Smooth Moving Day
1. Work together with your roommates: Make sure you consult your roommates and coordinate your move in schedules. Don’t try to all move in at the same time. Work together and move in one person at a time. This way you can help each other and potentially arrange to use the same moving truck for multiple moves. 2. Book the Elevator: If you are moving into an apartment building make sure you book the elevator with your new landlord. If possible, try to book the elevator during “off times” (i.e. during the week). This allows for some leeway if you take longer than expected to move in. 3. Get the key early: Ask your landlord if you can get the key a day early. This will give you the opportunity to clear you new place. It will also remove one thing from the long list of things to do on moving day. 4. Confirm the moving date: Always confirm your moving day with your landlord. The last thing you want is to show at your new place on the wrong day. Also, if applicable, confirm your move out date with your current landlord. 5. Moving from out of town: If you are moving from out of town (i.e. from your parents place) take some extra care in planning the details of the move. If you are renting a truck, be sure to identify and confirm a drop off location in the Waterloo area. 6. Assess your belongings: Take the time to assess what you have. This will allow you to determine what type of vehicle you need to effectively more all of your stuff. Don’t spend the money on a moving van if all you need is a small trailer or pickup truck. As around and find out who has a truck and offer to pay gas money and buy them dinner. This is much cheaper and less hassle than renting a moving van. 7. Get Packing: The worst case scenario for moving is not being 100% packed and ready to go on moving day. Always have all of your stuff packed in boxes and easy to move containers. Also, don’t have things too heavy. Nobody wants to injure themselves helping you move. 8. Buying New Furniture: if you plan on purchasing new furniture for your place, wait until after you have moves. If it is large furniture, get the company to deliver it after you are settled, if possible. There is no sense in moving stuff twice. Always get organized and ask people to help well in advance when moving into Waterloo off campus housing. It will go a long way and ensure your moving day goes by without a hitch.
