Moving day can be a real headache if not planned effectively. For most people it is a day that they dread. The reason that most people do not look forward to moving is that they are not effectively prepared for it. Being prepared is especially important if you are planning to move in the same as the rest of your roommates. Students that use the following tips when moving into Waterloo off campus housing will have significantly less issues when moving day comes:

1. Work together with your roommates: Make sure you consult your roommates and coordinate your move in schedules. Don’t try to all move in at the same time. Work together and move in one person at a time. This way you can help each other and potentially arrange to use the same moving truck for multiple moves.

2. Book the Elevator: If you are moving into an apartment building make sure you book the elevator with your new landlord. If possible, try to book the elevator during “off times” (i.e. during the week). This allows for some leeway if you take longer than expected to move in.

3. Get the key early: Ask your landlord if you can get the key a day early. This will give you the opportunity to clear you new place. It will also remove one thing from the long list of things to do on moving day.

5. Moving from out of town: If you are moving from out of town (i.e. from your parents place) take some extra care in planning the details of the move. If you are renting a truck, be sure to identify and confirm a drop off location in the Waterloo area.

6. Assess your belongings: Take the time to assess what you have. This will allow you to determine what type of vehicle you need to effectively more all of your stuff.
