Ways Esl Students Can Significantly Increase English Speaking Success
1. Convince Yourself that You are Knowledgeable You start to believe that you are not an expert in the language. You suspect that you cannot narrate your story or point strongly. You imagine that people will not listen to your words. You think of just keeping your views to yourself. Stop those thoughts – right away! These negative thoughts will bulldoze your self-confidence. They are sure to ruin your poise. What should you do? Convince yourself that you are knowledgeable about your speech. Are you sure you have reviewed your topic thoroughly? Are you sure you have arranged your thoughts logically? Are you sure you have rehearsed well? If your answers to these questions are a resounding yes, then you are all set. You have done your preparations. Now is the time to perform. 2. Channel Your Focus on Others Before talking, channel your attention to your audience. The purpose of directing your focus on others is to keep your mind from yourself. You have to do this in order to lessen your self-consciousness. What harm can being overly self-conscious do to you? Being overly self-conscious can work up your fright of speaking. This can happen because you concentrate way too much on yourself, looks, and words. 3. Believe in Your Words There is one great way to make others believe in you: Believe in yourself first. If you act unsure, people will think you are unsure. If you act credibly, people will think you are credible. You are what you project. So how can you believe in yourself? Believe in your words. Know how your words will make you and your listeners better individuals. If you do not know the value of your words, then your audience will not listen to you.
