The current economic recession poses a danger to the quality of life of an average American. Previously, the government created policies that had short term benefits but long term consequences which ultimately led to US economy downturn. The current economic recession did not immediately come as a result of these policies but there are a lot of indicators that hinted to this eventuality.

Why were so many people taken aback with the current economic recession? This is primarily because the information provided to them was insufficient and they thought that it is possible for them to continue their lifestyles. Now though, we realize that the current economic recession could have been foreseen; in fact, it is almost inevitable.


In the last several decades, the US government had gone through a lot of turmoils of the economic cycle yet they had survived in spite of it. People had experienced personal bankruptcy, foreclosure, and other financial problems. Yes, but many had survived to tell their story. Pointing fingers will not do anyone good at this point.

But the question remains, what should you do about it? Would you survive the increasing interest rate and the rising fuel costs? And would you stand on the sidelines when your job is threatened by forces beyond your control? The fact is, you shouldn't because there are things you can do.

Before you start, here are some tips:

Find the right market - although hard-work and perseverance are important characteristics to have, it may mean nothing You must first find a niche with potential for you to find success in business.

Keep track of your expenses - capitalization will let you start the enterprise but there are expenses you need to deal with after that. Know what these expenses are before you even start.

Have an organized business - don't open a business if you don't intend to take care of it. It is important for you to record everything that goes in and out of the company. That way, you will find out if your business is really making money or not and you need to worry about accurate calculations for taxes if you do this.

Know the exit strategies available - entrepreneurs certainly hate the thought of failure when they are just starting out. But having an exit strategy is also important just in case you decide to liquidate.

If you can observe, the tips above are great but they are theoretical in nature. So what business opportunity has the right niche market, have low overhead cost, and one that has a low "exit" cost? Even if the current economic recession is difficult, there are still opportunities you can explore.
