Weather Warnings For Uk
Brits on luxury villa holidays have returned home this week to torrential rain, and are hoping the summer is not over for the UK this year. On Sunday more than half the average rainfall for the month fell in under an hour in some parts of the UK, and torrential downpours hit large areas of the country on Monday night as forecasters warned of flash flooding. Drivers have been warned to prepare for tricky conditions and possible delays. Severe weather warnings have been issued for heavy rain and risk of flash flooding and gale force winds for the North of the country. And forecasters say there will be little respite for at least a further week, with heavy downpours likely to dampen the Bank Holiday weekend. Despite it only being August the weather is certainly feeling autumnal with the weather more typical of October. Billy Payne, forecaster with MeteoGroup, said the heavy rainfall could result in some flash flooding. She said: "This afternoon we've had heavy showers across the Midlands and long outbreaks of rain across Scotland". "Most other areas should see showers becoming more scattered, particularly in the north west. It'll be quite a windy night everywhere, with some strong winds". "Wednesday is not looking particularly nice. An area of low pressure from the south west will bring persistent and heavy outbreaks of rain across England and Wales". This un-welcome weather comes from a band of low pressure being pushed across the country by the jet stream. This stream was much further north during the extended sunny spells of May, June and July, diverting much of the unsettled conditions away from the Britain. Meanwhile in the Algarve they have also been experiencing unusual weather patterns for the time of year as heat waves continue to descend upon villas in Portugalthis year with temperatures souring above average.
