Web Design And Development Trends For 2012
1. Progressive enhancement CSS3 and HTML 5 is predicted to be used more this year than it did last year. For CSS3, it will be used more this year since there are many more options like multiple backgrounds, box shadows, text shadows, transparent images, drop-down menus, and so on. For HTML 5, it has a wide range of features from social tools, typography, and new APIs to drag and drop features, and many more. It is also more flexible because it can deliver faster which helps when creating layouts and connecting all types of data formats like audio and video, etc. According to Happy Cog founder Jeffrey Zeldman, “the rise of mobile and the dominance of WebKit-powered smartphones over traditional desktop web browsing is convincing even die-hard skeptics to embrace progressive enhancement, HTML5, CSS3, and other tenets and aspects of standards-based design”. 2. Responsive web design Because of the amazing technology nowadays, people can browse the internet on their mobile phones and tablets; not just on laptops and computers, thanks to responsive web design, which was created last year, 2011. Web designers are now beginning to generate their own responsive web designs for their website so that it can adapt to any medium (mobile phones, laptops, tablets, etc.). 3. Better and Stronger Customer Service The co-founder of Headscape, Mr. Paul Boag, predicts that 2012 will be a bigger and better year for customer service within the fields of the web industry. “As web designers,” Boag proclaims, “we like to think we just build websites. We don’t. We also offer a service to our clients. We are often so obsessed with user experience, code and design that we forget other important factors such as good communication, understanding business needs and exceeding client expectations. If we are going to prosper in 2012 we need to blow our clients away, not just their users.” 4. Flash will make a comeback Despite of Flash’s popularity decrease last year, 2011, designer Tom Muller thinks that Adobe’s technology will recover some time during this year. “Web designers and developers sometimes lose sight of what works and is demanded by a larger audience, due to preferring what’s considered ‘cool’ in their bubble,” he says. “More big brands will shift from Flash, testing the water with HTML5 and CSS3 for focussed campaigns. But for entertainment sites, Flash is - and will remain – the predominant tool of choice to create engaging experiences.” 5. Typography This trend was popular in 2011, especially among WordPress developers trying to keep their blogs unique, and it’s going to keep the same status or perhaps become even more common in 2012. There are now free online font libraries like Typekit and Google’s web fonts service which provide free trials of various types of fonts for web designers.
