Web Site Seo What Is It And What Is Its Effects?

Let’s us start at the beginning; SEO simply stands for Search Engine Optimization. This should be an integral part of any web design as this is the starting point of SEO.
But how you ask does this affect your web site; I shall explain. You have submitted your design and development requirements to your web designer/developer; subsequently you review your final web site. It is all singing and dancing, you are extremely happy with the results and the site is implemented live on the web and you eagerly await with anticipation the results to come flooding in. Alas nothing; you show your existing contacts your web site and they are impressed, but still nothing.
This is when you try searching for your site on the search engines with the key words that have been you used and you will find one of two results; firstly your site appears near the top of the search results or you cannot find your site within the search results in any of the major search engines. Let us breakdown both scenarios individually.

The former where you found your web site near the top of the search results may sound strange, you know for sure that your specific line of business is buoyant so what has happened? The answer is quite simple; the key words that were used are of no use. You are most probably only one of a few who uses these particular key words. A common ploy used by unscrupulous SEO experts as a method to get you to part with your money. There are many key word tools on the net that allow their usage to be reported; any web designer/developer worth their salt would have checked that your key words are in common usage within the major search engines.
How these key words are applied within you Home page is critical to the SEO of your web site.

The later of the two scenarios; where you could not find your web site in any of the major search engine can be simply explained. There has been no or little SEO preformed on your web site. In both scenarios; in the former after key word correction has taken place SEO will most probably have to be performed. So what exactly does SEO consist off?

Do not be fooled by the unscrupulous SEO experts that guarantees results within a week, this is a lengthy process depending on the competition you have already on the Internet. As mentioned previously the starting point has to be the content of your web site. The key words have to be placed within a rich content; overly placing numerous occurrences of your key words can have a disastrous effect as the major search engines will penalize for this. There are tools available that will assist web designer/developers in this task. This task should be performed by the designer/developer you have hired to produce your web site. The second task that should be performed as standard in any web site production is the registration of that site with the major search engines; namely Google, Yahoo and MSN. This is where most web designers/developers will leave you sitting; a few may advise you regarding SEO; it is best that you ask them about SEO before you commission your web site. Be wary of a designer/developer who avoids the subject when broached. It will indicate that they either do not understand SEO or have no intention of even advising, they are out for the quick buck. You should find that the reputable will happily give free advice on the matter; however you will find most reluctant to perform a full SEO as it is a very time consuming project. So how do you get the web site exposure you require?

The first option is the quickest but expensive and you will need a guaranteed revenue resulting from it; it is to pay for featured exposure in the major search engines. This can be very expensive and will entail and ongoing cost; best avoided unless you can justify the expense.

The second option is the building a high quality links to you site; low quality links are of little significance. These links come from four sources; directories, web sites, social networks and articles, one-way links are given a much higher priority that reciprocal links. It is the building of these links that are time consuming; they are many specialist in these areas; but beware of the unscrupulous, who will advertise 1500+ high quality links for a few hundred dollars, unless they actually own 1500+ high quality sources for linking to you they cannot guarantee acceptance. The majority of high quality link sources will manually review any link before they include the link; most will reject what is considered spam (automated) link requests out of hand. It is also best to spread the links between all the four categories previously mentioned; there should be a bias towards web directories, then web sites, followed by articles and finally the social networks. One final point regarding the linking to your web site; do not expect instant results even after the link requests have been submitted; most requests take time to process unless you pay for featured links to your site; and then the search engines have to find and register these links to your site. If your business is in a high Internet usage area, it can take up to a year to have your site fully optimized within the search engines. Always aim to be in the top ten of the search results for that maximum exposure; that is when you know that you site is fully optimized for your key words.

To summarize; always enquire about the SEO process you will need before commissioning the web site. Make sure that the key words that you will be using have been researched and implemented properly in the design/development process. Beware of unscrupulous SEO experts; they can be costly in both money and time. Show patience during the link building and in reaping the rewards from the SEO process.
