Wedding Gift Etiquette
Normally gift is a token of love and happiness expressed in attending the wedding as well as a blessing to the newly married to live a long life together. There are various ways in which we can gift the newly wed. But mostly it should be something that the couple can use rather than some gift which doesn’t have any usage. The tradition of gifting is merely an exchange of happiness as it excites us definitely to receive gifts as well as surprise others gifting them. The gift normally differs from where the couple lives, their culture and lifestyle, their likes and dislikes. It sounds lovely to gift couples, but for guests who don't know the bride and groom well enough to conjure up such a representation or are on a tight budget, here are a few suggestions to get you through wedding season: 1. How costly should the gift be? The amount you should spend on a gift is based on the wedding location, your age and your budget. A typical amount is £60. Though the gift amount is somewhat arbitrary some standard gifts with respect to the relationship you have with the one who is getting married are as follows: If it's a co-worker's wedding, you should spend £60 to £80; a relative or friend, £80-£100 and if it's a close friend or close relative, anywhere from £100 to £150 or more is good enough. 2. How much budget can you allocate for weddings in a month filled with invitations? Most brides and grooms don't want you to go broke as a result of their wedding. Therefore, guests should always consider their budget constraints. If you've been invited to three weddings you’ll need to take into account expenses for all those events (not just the gifts, but any required travel and lodging, as well). Most of the travel and other expense cannot be cut down as they are inevitable. They will appreciate that people go so far to be with them for their wedding. That indeed is a gift in itself. Also keep in mind that your gift obligations don't start and end with the wedding. Factor in surrounding celebrations, like the bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette party and engagement party. You will feel like taking up a second job just to meet the extra expenditure you will require to make their celebration memorable by contributing in it. 3. Can I send gifts if I can’t make it to the wedding? Yes. Guests give gifts to help the couple commemorate the occasion and start their new life together and that should be the case whether a guest attends a festivities or not. If you care about the couple, you should send a gift not just because you were invited to the wedding, but also for the role you play in their lives. I hope this provided the insight and answered the basic questions pondering your minds. Wedding is a onetime affair and as much as possible we should make it special for the couple from our end.
