Wedding Reception Centerpieces: Make A Statement Without Saying A Word (or Breaking The Bank)

Colors. Textures. Themes. Patterns. Prints. Designs. Layouts. Formats. Schemes. Ideas. In a word, choosing wedding reception centerpieces can be – in every sense – overwhelming. With all the options out there, it can be argued that no other wedding day detail has more choices, and many brides might find themselves living out a scene similar to the “Very Merry Unbirthday” spot from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. Its attributed chaos captures decision dilemma perfectly.

While in most cases, brides won’t be dealing with a Mad Hatter, March Hare, Dormouse or White Rabbit, they still have (but aren’t limited to) themselves, two mothers, a number of bridesmaids, coordinators, planners, vendors and one poor man (no pun intended) footing the entire bill. Trying to narrow down the choices is like looking at the unbirthday table filled with 23,034,893,098 teapots. The teapots - accurately symbolizing the centerpiece options – are almost limitless, and they’re all great for different reasons.

Some are short and stout; while others are tall and slender. Some are round and hearty; while others are square and dainty. Some are filled with vibrant colors; while others are more appealing in not so saturated tones. They can be plain or layered. They can be accompanied by everything from cakes and candles to fun and fireworks. Yet, there are still others that do perfectly well simply by standing alone… the list goes on and on!
And while the list may go on and on, there is one part of wedding planning that won’t: the budget. The March Hare and Mad Hatter may not have had to consider finances, but the majority of brides do. Depending on the number of guests attending, the cost to reception décor can add up quickly. So, what’s a girl to do?

Below are some popular centerpieces that are creating a big buzz without breaking the bank:

• Photo Themes: Brides and grooms can take pictures of themselves through the years or together and display them in vases or frames at the center of each table. Using pictures from favorite events, childhood memories or even an engagement session instantly adds character and personality to any wedding setting.
• Flower Themes: Many couples use flowers as stand alone centerpieces, as well as well coordinated decor. Everything from delicately sprinkled rose petals to large floral displays can be a gorgeous addition to a wedding day celebration. Not to mention, there is simply no denying the eternal presence of flower power, and if fake flowers are used, the cost can be dropped dramatically.
• “Well Lit” Themes: Nothing says romance like a dimly lit room filled with candles. Couples can play with candle heights, wax colors, textures and shapes to create a one of a kind centerpiece that will not only look beautiful but also immediately add a romantic ambiance. They are a perfect way to add interest to a reception hall without a lot of preparation or cost.
• Mini Cake Themes: Brides and grooms have the option to create mini versions of their wedding cake and placed one at the center of each table. Because these delectably designed centerpieces double as decoration and dessert, they prove to be just as practical as it is magical. Not to mention, clean up is a breeze! Most of these table toppers will be eaten!
• Beach Themes: Bring the atmosphere of a destination wedding directly to any wedding setting. Couples can have fun coordinating fish bowls, seashells, floating candles and sand to create a seaside creation that any city would love!

From extravagant to simple, wedding centerpieces come in all shapes and sizes, but there is no reason that any bride-to-be should let all the options overwhelm her. Simply by picking out a few key ingredients, taking on some do-it-yourself duties and having fun, these polished pretties can make a real splash without causing your budget to crash… no “unbirthday” about it.
