Wedding Venues: The Small Details

You’re tying the knot, but where? You’re parents or future in-laws would love it if you had the ceremony in their backyard and you’re co-worker swears that a destination wedding is the way-to-go. Where do you start? The internet is a wonderful source of wedding venues. Not only can brides and grooms search by the geographical area, most wedding venues show photos on their website. You can also narrow down the search of wedding venues by factoring in your style and budget. Think outside the box. Look at a bed and breakfast, a small inn, sports or social clubs, retreat center, your local community center and even yachts. Alternate wedding venues are always looking to attract event business and would welcome the opportunity to work with you to plan your special day.

Once you decide to explore a few wedding venues, make sure to inquire about: pricing, room capacity, space for both dining and dancing, parking and packages available. Find out if wedding venues impose limitations that could negatively affect your plans. Some stipulate no loud music after a certain time, others don’t like confetti or candles, and certain (usually historic) venues forbid high-heeled shoes for fear of their flooring being damaged. To make things easy on yourself, look for wedding venues with all-inclusive and custom wedding packages that include the menu, preferred florists, caterers, and perhaps even a limo.

Once you’ve narrowed down your list of wedding venues, make sure that the reception venue is going to seat all the guests that attended the ceremony and a few more. Statistics show that more people attend receptions than the actual wedding. A formal meal will obviously require more space than a stand-up buffet, and wedding venues whose seated capacity is 100 might well be able to accommodate 200 for a standing reception. Choosing wedding venues is one of the most important wedding planning decisions you'll make. Take note that the small details of wedding venues will make the most difference.
