Welcome To The Marina, All Aboard

Renting a boat is a pretty straightforward deal. You saunter down to the Marina Del Rey boat rental office and you pull out your wallet. With a quick swipe, you're off and running. Or, that is, you're off and cruising. The Pacific is a patient host, so make sure you get your good times squared away and your cruise invitations in the mail ASAP.

On board a 35-foot yacht, you can be sure one of two things is bound to happen. First, you're going to be hailed as a party-throwing guru. Second, and more importantly, you're going to have a heck of time! I mean this. If you're even mildly interested in partying like a refine gentleman with a twist, then a yacht party is the way to go.

No, you don't have to be a blithering idiot or an obnoxious air-guitar player to make this spin around the bay a memorable one. Keep cool and keep your reputation intact. Remember, you will have to see these people somewhere down the road. So, keep the underwear around you waist and off your head. Think Daniel Craig as 007 rather than Tom Hanks in Bachelor Party and you'll steer clear of embarrassing Facebook photo tags and Twitter alerts.

A word of advice: most yacht charter don't provide fully stocked wet bars or steaming hot buffet tables. You'll probably have to hit-up a local cater to stock and man the bar and get a nice deli platter on board. It's just the way it is. Now, yes, you can charge up the search engines to find a local cater, but the charter should have a referral list of trusted caters that are broken down along price lines.

So, you may have to swipe you credit card two times. But, it'll be worth it. No one relishes the thought of end up on Gillian's Island. Make sure there's plenty to eat and drink for your time at sea. Keep that in mind, too. How long do you want to be on a boat? Two hours? All day? All night? Now, you don't have to do the math to figure out how much food and drink you'll need -- that's the carter's job. Still, they need a ballpark. Moreover, this will determine how much you pay for the boat as well.
