What Are Some Of The Symptoms Of Hemorrhoids?

For many people the first symptoms of hemorrhoids is bright red blood covering the stool, or on toilet paper. Although many people have hemorrhoids, not all experience any symptoms, but like me many individuals find there is bleeding, itching, and painful swelling around the anus area.

In addition excessive straining, rubbing with not so soft toilet paper, or cleaning around the anus may produce a protruding hemorrhoid outside the body which can become irritated and painful so quickly.

Are Hemorrhoids found only in Women?

I wondered if hemorrhoids were only an issue with women, but found out that hemorrhoids are common in both women and men. About half of the population find themselves dealing with this issue by age 50. Even though people do not talk about this subject very much in every day conversations it is something that a lot of people wish they could find a way to get some relief from. Unfortunately, most people just suffer in silence and hope that the symptoms go away.

How are hemorrhoids diagnosed?

Can you believe, it took me 2 years to go to the doctor to get diagnosed, I am ashamed to admit it, but I just kept hoping that the pain, itching and swelling would just one day just disappear. Talk about being in denial!! Well I got scared and did finally go to the doctor for a through evaluation and proper diagnosis. The doctor performed a digital rectal exam to look for swollen blood vessels that would indicate I had hemorrhoids. Closer evaluation of the rectum for hemorrhoids requires a exam with a endoscope, a hollow, lighted tube.

Not my most comfortable exam, but it is important to have a doctor’s exam anytime there is bleeding from the rectum, or there is blood in your stools. I should have not waited so long to go to the doctor. I am lucky it was just hemorrhoids!!!

How are hemorrhoids prevented?

The best way to prevent hemorrhoids is to keep your stools soft so they pass easily, so there is no pressure or straining. What does that tell you Drink More Water!! Also empty your bowels as soon as possible after the urge occurs. EXERCISE! Include walking and running into your every day lifestyle. Increase fiber in your diet to help reduce constipation. Shop around for a healthier diet and eat less junk food.

Just remember that one has control over their bodies, and with all the new technology out there to heal and prevent hemorrhoids, it is a shame to act like I did. I would urge individuals to take control of their health.
