What Are The Causes Of Stuttering?
One question that I am asked on a frequent basis is: What causes people to develop a stutter? I ask a similar question to the people who contact me with regards to helping them eradicate their speech impediment. Have you any idea as to why you developed a stutter? The answers are very varied. The most common is the belief that they think it runs in the family, many people have a parent and also grandparent who also have or had a stutter. Other causes include: They developed a stutter in reaction to a major shock, a car crash for example. They developed a stutter due to a family break up. They developed a stutter due to an over-aggressive teacher. They developed a stutter due to bullying. They developed a stutter due to a mental break down. They developed a stutter due to a stroke. There are also those who have absolutely no idea as to why they developed a speech impediment. I personally preferred to concentrate on finding a cure for stuttering rather than look for the causes of stuttering, that is just me I guess. Where possible it can be of benefit to find what caused the stutter in the first place however the main focus, in my opinion should be spent on working hard to eliminate the stutter.
