A director has numerous job duties. He or she is involved in interpreting the script and making it into a movie, coaching the actors and actresses, and overseeing the cinematography and special effects. Some directors may even be involved in the editing of the film. A person who is interested in becoming a director should study all aspects of film production. The producer is the person who is responsible for the entire movie. He or she will plan the production, hire staff, and set a budget. Someone who is interested in becoming a producer should be well organized and be financially literate. A production designer is involved in the visual style of a movie. He or she will be responsible for wardrobe, costume, hair, make up, props, special effects, and directing the photography. A person who is interested in becoming an art designer should be creative. A cinematographer is someone who photographs with moving film. He or she may also review the processed film and if necessary, make adjustments. If one is interested in cinematography, he or she should be creative, have great computer skills, and understand in great detail how the camera functions. The best boy is the person who is the second in charge in the light, electrical and/or grip departments. Contrary to popular belief, one does not have to be a boy to hold down this job. A person who is interested in this job should be responsible and able to multi task. The Foley artist is the person who is responsible for making the sounds in the film. He or she uses a variety of things to create the sounds that are heard in a movie. A person who is interested in this job should be creative and detailed oriented. Having a career in film can be very rewarding; not to mention very lucrative. However, all film jobs require time, patience, and dedication to one's chosen job. A person wanting to pursue in any career in movie production should study it in detail and then determine whether it is right for him or her.
