What Does An Orgasm Feel Like?
The notion that one “just knows” if he or she has an orgasm is not always true, nor is it particularly helpful when trying to visualize such a joyous experience. It’s important to first realize what orgasm is; it is defined as a “climax” of sexual excitement and seems to involve genital pleasure and ejaculation. Scientifically speaking, what happens is that a person reaches the peak of the plateau phase, and this usually involves involuntary processes of muscle contraction in the pelvis, as well as a strong sense of euphoria, and an aftermath of calm and relaxation. Of course, no two people orgasm in just the same way, and this is important to keep in mind as we explore the issue further. An orgasm doesn’t have to be extremely loud, nor does it necessarily involve a sense of “losing control.” There are weak orgasms and powerful orgasms. There are also theories on what makes orgasms powerful or not so much. For instance, old school science reasoned that clitoral orgasms were weaker and were considered less mature sexual responses; in comparison, the vaginal and or G-spot orgasm was considered the more powerful and most “mature” response. However, what modern psychology suggests is that the orgasm is a mental process and one that can be enhanced through concentration, focusing and through the process of progressive mental/emotional stimulation. This certainly compliments studies showing that some women can respond orgasmically to breast stimulation alone. In addition, some people claim that men actually have the ability to experience multiple orgasms, if only they delayed ejaculation longer and then the quaking effects of orgasm took over. One recurring thought in modern sexuality is that of “letting go” of repression. If a person resists the power to orgasm then the orgasm won’t be as strong. However, if the person really gets into the fantasy, and takes an active role in the sexual encounter, complete with loud exhalations and excitement, it’s likely the person will start to feel more orgasmic than if they stayed silent. Orgasm requires mental arousal, and usually in addition to genital touch, breasts stimulation or full body touching.
