What Is Speed Reading, Really?

Like other language skills, speed reading is also a complex skill involving a number of simultaneous operations. Understanding while Reading is a complex process in which brain and many other skills are involved. We know very little about these complex mental processes associated with the learning and the use of language. It is not difficult to learn how to read faster because it is a matter of practice. You can learn fast reading and improve comprehension gradually.
Fast reading is very helpful in learning new skills and in getting information about world news and events. When a reader reads a passage or book faster then he not only saves time but also improves his comprehension level. Fast readers can understand the lexical and the structural meanings of the words, phrases and sentences. They have the ability to take in complete phrases or groups of words at once and comprehend them. Reading aloud, a reader can use appropriate sounds, juncture, stress and intonations patterns. They can guess the meaning of an unfamiliar word from the context. Some readers find it difficult to search meanings of an unfamiliar word but a person who can read well can consult a dictionary to find out the meaning of an unfamiliar word. It is a common practice to find meanings of new words in learning fast reading.
Fast readers read silently and pronounce words in mind without moving lips. Good readers who have the ability to comprehend a text can distinguish between the writer's opinion and statement of facts. They can easily understand theme of a paragraph and can locate the topic sentence of a paragraph. Good readers not only understand the meaning of the paragraph but can infer the mood of the writer, e.g. serious, jocular, sarcastic, etc. Some readers think that in fast reading a reader will skip passages of text. So he will not absorb or understand it completely due to which his comprehension level will be decreased. But in realty the brain of reader would start to process quickly than you think it can. So readers having these abilities can have good opportunities in the market where reading is emphasized. Their living standard and income can increase once if they acquire this ability.
Mostly readers don't know fast reading techniques and strategies so they have to face many problems while reading long texts. Those readers who read aloud cannot read faster because they spend more time to pronounce words. Persons who are not good readers remain unable to comprehend the passage and cannot learn fast. They have to read again and again the same passage to understand it. They spend more time on a single task so they remain shy, confuse and perplexed which damages their personality. Ultimately this decreases their efficiency and develops lack of confidence in them. They have to read all the text or book whether it is relevant or not and face difficulties to summarize it.
So learning fast reading is very important in today's life where every one has to read a huge amount of material. Those people who have the zeal for learning are successful than those who are not enthusiastic about learning new things. Fast reading is a combination of eye movement and some reading skills such as skimming, skipping and scanning. The best method for learning fast reading is to force you to read faster.
