Maybe not for the reason that it would cost some money and not all people looking for golf equipment would look there. Would you send out mailers to every family in the city? Again, probably not for the reason that not all people are golfers. Some of those mailers would go right into the garbage. What you would do would be a way to reach just golfers in the most cost-effective way possible. This is called targeted lead generation.
Online, it is, really, much simpler to execute targeted lead generation than it is in “real life”. There are loads of places you can go to track down those golfers, for example, and present them with an offer that may appeal to them without bothering others that don’t golf.
Targeted lead generation can be completed in many different ways, and no one way works all the time, so it is best to make use of a blend of these and more, in order to grow the best lead list you are able:
1. Sign up with several niche groups online as possible. The best place to begin looking is Yahoogroups, but Facebook, Linked In, and MySpace have groups you can join.
2. Submit articles about your product to ezine article submission sites. By using proper keywords, you should be able to start generating leads.
3. Don’t overlook about Craig’s List. Although network marketing is frowned upon here, you can still find people interested, and most importantly, get your hands on their email address.
Bear in mind that the more detailed your product is, the more effort you will have to do to track down your target audience, but once you do, the sales per lead ratio should rise.
