What Is Unconditional Love? Does It Really Exist?
It appears that, love is ambiguous and complex to describe. You can check various dictionaries, translations, psychology books and authors but you will by no means find the real meaning and essence of love. To know the real meaning of love, we should refer to God, the author of love. As a matter of fact, God is love. God does not just love, He is love. It is His very essence. The whole thing that God does is because of His love. It is not the same love that people are accustomed of. The bible describes love in the book of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 as “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails” With this definition of love, you will know that love is not just a feeling or a matter of great fondness, appeal and choice. People are mistaken about love and how to stay in love. Generally, people simply focus on the goodness of the person they love. Absolutely, it is effortless to love people who are your own flesh and blood or your comrade who stayed with you through thick and thin. Suppose that person is no good, a rebel in the crowd? Say, you are not related or worse enemy. How will you treat him or her? Are you keen to do the things mentioned in the bible? Unconditional is defined as definite or not limited by any circumstances or status. Eagerness to love and to do the things described in the bible regardless of who the person is and what he or she does is called unconditional love. This kind of love was demonstrated by God when he send His beloved Son to save us from death. And He did this while we were all sinners and unworthy of the valuable gift of eternal life. God loved us although we are treacherous and rebellious. Our nature does not know how to love others truly even ourselves. But because God showed His love through His son Jesus, we now have a clear picture of love and most of all - unconditional love. You may perhaps be wondering if it is possible for you to love unconditionally just like God because you are only human. Marvelously, God has given those people who receive His son Jesus as their Savior not only eternal life with Him but also the ability to love unconditionally as He does. This is because of the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells on them. Knowing God's love brings completeness to life. Only His love satisfies thus allows you to savor and have a significant life. Allow God to show and experience His love through believing in His son Jesus Christ and giving your life to Him.
