What You Need To Know Before Entering A Cheerleading Competition

One of the most exciting and prestigious aspect of cheerleading can be cheer competitions. Cheerleading competitions allow your team to rally together and show everyone just how hard they have worked. While it does take a lot of work, participating will leave your team feeling accomplished, and actually placing in the competition can be an exhilarating experience. Before you enter a cheer competition it’s a good idea to be well prepared. Here are some great tips to make sure your team is primed for competition.

• When beginning your search for competitions to enter, make sure you are aware of any boundaries or limitations you and your squad may face. Consider how far your team can and is willing to travel. There is no point in going through the process of entering a competition if you ultimately are unable to attend it. It’s also important to take into consideration the amount of money your squad has to put towards things like uniform costs, traveling expenses, and entry fees. If you’re entering a competition and money is an issue it’s probably a good idea to start fundraising well in advance.




• After you find out which competitions you want to enter, make sure you are aware of all deadlines that your squad will need to meet. Read all forms carefully and take note of any fees that need to be paid before taking part in the competition. Not being fully aware of requirements set forth by those holding the competition can result in disqualification and can cost you and your team valuable time and money.



• You will need to bring several things for the team. Make a checklist of things you will need while you are traveling and competing. This list should include things like permission slips and emergency information for each member of the squad, as well as a first aid kit. It would also be helpful to put together a checklist for each member of your squad so all cheerleaders are well prepared.



• In order to ensure that your squad is at their best for the competition it’s important to make sure that things go smoothly when you arrive at your destination. This can be something as simple as making sure you are aware of and can meet any scheduled requirements such as check in. If traveling a long distance and sleeping provisions will need to be made, make sure you know where the hotel is located; how far away the competition is from the hotel; and how you will be traveling between the destinations



• While it’s important to have fun at the competition and keep your team’s spirits high, it’s also important to maintain a sense of professionalism. Your team should be proud to be taking part in the event and should act accordingly. It’s imperative that your team participates in all events required and follows the schedule of events in a punctual manner. The judges will look for a team that is well qualified; this includes following directions and requirements efficiently.
