What Does A Marine Radar Really Do?

A boat radar is either an x-band or s-band radar tool that tells of a boat's position and distance, and also any possible foreign objects within area. This is very useful at night when is dark, and the pathway in the water is barely visible. Although in the day time, a boat radar is still a must-have as it sees far targets that are not determined by the naked eye due to limited sight. What can the equipment determine? A boat radar and determine lands, weather conditions, and other boats at sea. Even from a distance the radar can determine the presence of such things by transmitting radio frequency energy to the surrounding area and shows whatever is reflected back to the antenna through the screen.
The vessel operator is then informed through a guard alarm. Anytime a boat enters a "dangerous zone" where vessels, landmasses, and buoys are nearby, the alarm alerts the boat operator. The alarm is set to only make signals if the land targets are really close which is predetermined by the operator. With a radar equipment, you can also see through heavy rain, fog, and dark areas; or whenever you're having problems with your boat lights. Some radars, depending on what model, can also determine how fast a vessel or any other mobile object is moving towards your boat or whichever direction. So the radar helps keep the boats away from land targets that it might hit if not seen.
For fishing vessels and pleasure boats such as yachts, the marine radar has another purpose other than adding to visibility and protection. A radar aids boats in almost any size to navigate towards areas for fishing, diving, and what not. When wind and water current suddenly steer a boat off course, it helps the operator determine the boat's current position and steer the boat back to its intended course. This is made feasible with the Variable Range Marker and the radar's Electronic Bearing Line. These counter any vessel drift and put it back on track as their functions are to mark range and bearing to follow fixed targets.
