What Is Wellness Travel Or Medical Tourism

You may have heard of both Wellness Travel and Medical Tourism but wondred what the differences are.

Well its really quite simple, Wellness Travel refers to taking a vacation and spending it at a spa or retreat where you might undergo some non-medical procedures such as a detox program, colonic irrigation or practive yoga and meditation.

Medical Tourism is where you can take advantage of the much lower costs of medical care overseas, combining your non-elective or elective treatment with a holiday in a beautiful tropical resort or bustling cosmopolitan city.

What do we mean by elective and non-elective treatment?

Elective treatment is where you address a condition you have that’s not critical. For example: you may be experiencing pain in your hips, but it’s not bad enough to immobilize you.

The initial diagnosis from your doctor may be that your hip joints are inflamed. There are pain relieving drugs he can give you now, but ultimately he may explain that you need to have your hip re-surfaced.

Usually, having this type of treatment through the health service would involve a long waiting list.

However, if you chose not to wait for your hip re-surfacing treatment from the health care service you could elect to have it done at a time and place of your own choosing.

This would be elective treatment.

Most types of cosmetic surgery would also be considered elective treatment.

But if you had a condition that was critical and required immediate treatment in order to save a limb, or your life, this would be considered non-elective treatment.

In addition to having treatment that involves an operation of some kind, you might also want to take a holiday in a Health Spa resort where you can enjoy health screening, detoxification and massage treatments to improve your general well-being.

Elective treatments and cosmetic surgery may not be covered by your medical insurance – and this is where Medical Tourism can provide you with an extremely good alternative. to pay.

In fact, medical treatment is so much cheaper in medical tourism destinations that you can take a vacation and have your treatment for up to 80% less than the treatment alone would cost you at home.

And you get the benefit of being able to recover in beautiful surroundings.

The Medical Tourism destinations are all in countries where the Government actively promotes the industry itself.

The result is that the facilities are world class and the
practitioners are internationally trained (usually in the US or Europe). The standard of medical care you receive is as good as you get at home, often better.

As a first step why not find where you’d like to go for a vacation? Once you’ve settled on your destination we can show you the treatments that are available there.
