What Is Snus

A lot of people smoke nowadays and say they cannot quit smoking no matter how dangerous it is. However researcher and tobacco producers are offering other alternative to cigars and cigarettes smoking. The tobacco industry offers smokeless tobacco like snus and snuff and more recently all kinds of tables or patches that contain nicotine. One of the most well known brands in Europe and lately Northern America is the Swedish General snus. No matter of its brand this kind of tobacco comes in different packages and is produced by several brands.

Snus is a kind of tobacco that can be loose or portioned. If loose one can portion it as he or she wants and if portioned it usually comes in several sizes. The loose oral tobacco is a moist powder that is usually shaped like a cylinder. It can be shaped with the fingertips or with special products like the Icetool. The Swedish smokeless tobacco is also portioned in sachets and look like tea bag. They come in three sizes: mini, large and maxi. The large sachet is the standard portion, the maxi is double the size of a large portion, and the mini is half the size of a standard portion. While the large and maxi portions are visible from under the upper lip, the mini size is not visible at all from under the lip. In Europe smokeless tobacco users usually place the portions under the upper lip because of less reach of saliva. In the United States most of the people who use this kind of tobacco place it in the cheek or the lower lip.


The portioned snus is also available in original portions or white portions. The original portions which are the first way of packaging the tobacco have clear flavor and aroma. The white portions however run less and their taste runs longer. Apart from the original kinds of smokeless tobacco which is essentially a combination of tobacco, water, salt, and additives, there are several flavors added to it. Some of these flavors are: apple, coffee vanilla, cranberry, icemint, liquorice, and wintergreen. The amount of time for keeping a portion under the lip varies from person to person, but the recommended time is around 30 minutes. People who just begin using snus should be careful not to chew it or suck on it. The wide variety of portioned products allows users to take the amount of nicotine they want daily. The nicotine amount varies from brand to brand and can be as low as 0.4 grams or as high as 1.5 grams in one single sachet.

General snus is one of the biggest and oldest brands in Sweden. Produced for more than one hundred years it is the favorite of a lot of smokeless tobacco users. The amount of citrus zest flavor contained gives the General snus a rich savor. Apart from the original flavor, the brand also offers pure malt whisky flavor and wintergreen flavor. The most known General snus products are General portion, General ONYX, General white portion, General Silver portion, General Maxi portion, General Mini portion and General Mini White portion. One of the favorite products seems to be the General Onyx because of the special tobacco blend used as well as the fancy design and packaging.
