What Is The Juggalo Chant?
That said, it should come as no surprise that music is still being used in this same fashion in 2012. The most formal examples come in the shape of national anthems, of which every country has. When you broaden the list to include less formal entities like fraternities, schools, and other inclusive organizations, the number of settings in which you can plan to hear these sounds grows even larger. But what about bands? They’re musical, wouldn’t it make sense for all bands to have their own theme song or anthem? The bands could even write it themselves! One band does: Detroit horror rap outfit Insane Clown Posse. It’s called the Juggalo chant, and it’s sung by Juggalettes too: “We will never die alone /Juggalos (and Juggalettes) will carry on/ swing our hatchets if we must/each an every 1 of us.” Before we analyze the deeper meaning behind the Juggalo chant, it’s important to know more about its unveiling. The Juggalo chant was used to announce the unveiling of The Wraith, and is preceded by Violent J talking in his twisted voice, telling Juggalo and Juggalette listeners that the world as they knew it was ending but that it would spawn a new Juggalo and Juggalette world for all to enjoy. After he’s done speaking that line, the Juggalo chant is repeated a whopping 25 times for good measure. Now, back to the chant itself. Remember all those reasons for chants being sung throughout history at the beginning of this article? Well they all hold true for the Juggalo chant as well. Juggalos and Juggalettes sing the Juggalo chant to embolden their own belonging in the family, and it even brings the hatchet in to enhance the inclusion feeling – not only are we one of the gang, but we’re also armed! The “each and every one of us” line to end it seals the deal as far as that element is concerned, and extinguishes any doubt as to Juggalettes’ inclusion. Next comes the chant purpose of warding off evil. It’s no secret that Juggalos and Juggalettes are widely reviled by many mainstream occupants throughout the country, and the Juggalo chant line about swinging hatchets is sure to be designed to intimidate the haters. Don’t forget that the s and Juggalettes have power in numbers, too. All in all, the Juggalo chant makes the family seem all that more appealing, and that’s after Juggalettes are taken into consideration. Friends, backup, and inclusion until the end, most notable in the introductory line, “we will never die alone.” So how long is it before band specific chants become the norm?
