What Makes The Perfect Wedding Venue?
One of the first things to decide on are the wedding ceremony and reception venues. For some brides this is easy, a childhood dream might be about to come true by picking a local favourite, a castle, a grand hotel or a lochside venue. However, for many couples, once the engagement has been confirmed, the date and venue are next on the list for planning the day. Researching the perfect venue can be time consuming, especially if you haven't settled on a region that you want to marry in. Even when you have narrowed the search down to a region, the options are still many and searching online takes away some of the hassle of figuring out the basics of what you'll need on your day. Online Online searches of venues can tell you the capacity, whether they are licensed for religious or civil services, if there is accommodation nearby and what the transport links are like. Once you have a couple of venues which fit the bill in mind, call their wedding organiser and discuss your preferences – most venues will be happy to help at this stage and should be able to provide you with full details of their services. It is always a good idea to visit the venue before settling on 'the one', this helps you get a real feel for the place and the organisers ahead of making a decision but if you are out of the country or planning from a distance try to get as much information as you can on the venue. Wedding venue reviews and testimonials help build the picture and a quick online search should help with this. What you need to know Is the venue licensed to hold weddings on the premise. If so which types? What is the capacity? You'll need to know the numbers so that you can plan your wedding. How many people can the venue hold for a ceremony, reception, for a sit down meal or buffet. Some venues have minimum numbers of guests that they will let you hold a wedding for – this is important to find out at an early stage. Cost The cost is a big factor in making a decision for many people and many venues offer packages of services. A venue package deal can include the catering, venue hire, canapes and buffet or a mix and match. The cost will depend on different factors such as the reception room you choose, the number of guests, the choice in menu, as well as other extras. Weddings are expensive and the venue is normally the biggest expenditure. Accommodation If your venue has accommodation on-site, it is quite common to be able to get special rates for any guests that want to stay on the night of the wedding. Find out from your venue beforehand as it can be useful for your guests to include this information with your wedding invitations. Likewise the venue should be able to inform you of local accommodation options if they don't provide this. Timing It is normal for venues to have a cut off time of around midnight when the party has to stop but this can vary depending on the venue. Hotels will have other guests to consider unless you have exclusivity for your day. Entertainment Some Scottish venues offer a piper as standard to pipe the newly weds into the wedding breakfast as well as for the start of the ceremony if it is to be held at the same location. For bands and disco's, most venues should be able to provide a PA system and advice on local providers. Photograph locations – come rain or shine Find out from your venue if there are any suitable locations nearby for photographs for both sunny and wet and wild wedding days. Obviously you want yours to be perfect and not tipping it down but it's best to have a back-up plan and the venue should be able to advise you. Staff Do you like the wedding organisers at the venue? This is incredibly important – you want your day to run as smoothly as possible and the attention to detail from staff at the venue should be of an exceptionally high standard on this of all days. Even if they run weddings daily and it may be one of many in their calendar – it's your one and only so suss out the staff early on, find out who you will be dealing with in the run up and on the day. As long as you are clear and don't place unreasonable demands on the staff and their venue, it should deliver and live up to your expectations of a perfect day.
