What's This Oral Chelation?

Oral chelation is basically in taking the chelating agents orally i.e. through mouth. It is nothing but adding of some food supplements to your regular diet. The most commonly used chelating agent is EDTA. Its chemical and physical properties are attracting to those of the heavy metals. In this EDTA combines with the heavy metals in our body and the body might be willing to get rid of it and it is sent to the kidney from where it is excreted out of the human body. In this category there are some natural chelators included too, that contains vitamins, minerals. There is some of the chelation formula based on the varying percentage of antioxidants.

Oral chelation is basically in taking 1-2 teaspoonful of medicine. The ingredients are jelly or honey. One of the major advantages of Oral chelation is its capability to excrete mercury out of the body. The organic substance used in the oral chelating agents form a strong bond with mercury and helps in eliminating out from the body. Oral chelation is a safe and suitable method so far. It helps in lowering of heart attack and blood cholesterol. Even the chelating agent PCA-Rx helps people with heart disease.

Oral chelation has a long term benefit that it prevents toxicity from heavy metals. It lowers blood cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart attacks and diabetes, movements of free radicals. So this technique is being preferred by both children and adults and considered an entirely safer option.

Intravenous chelation is also one of the chelation methods in which a chelating agent is given through vein rather than through mouth. Comparing it with oral chelation, the latter being a cheaper method. Intravenous one is a painful procedure and even leads to side effects like fever, fall of blood pressure. Oral chelation is free from side effects but if a minor problem like a headache occurs, then it is advisable to increase the water intake to 8-10 glasses a day. But intravenous is better too. It takes a long time for a person to recover in case of oral chelation.

Even the huge amount of chelating agent absorbed in the body can stick with the undigested food. Due to this there occurs a deficiency of the nutrients from the body and this even increases the problem. Thus it is not advisable to the patient with severe problem.
