What Safety Measures To Be Followed While Social Networking?

When it comes to kids and social networking, there are many things that need to be kept in mind. On the one hand, social networking is something good since it enables the child to keep in touch with classmates or teachers and it can even be educational. On the other hand, there are many potential dangers to the child and if they do not understand fully what that means, then the parents will have to be aware of any problems. There are certain safety measures to be followed while social networking and every parent has to make that clear to their child.

The first the child must learn is to tell about any new potential friends. Those sending messages may not be what they appear to be and the best thing to do is take a look on your own. Honesty towards their parents is a measure that will go a long way in keeping kids safe while on social networking sites. Another measure that must be done is to give instructions on what should be done and what is not allowed. You should tell your kids that go on social networking sites to stay away from those asking personal questions that are too personal, such as the exact location of the house or the times when parents are not around. Those that write messages with bad language or promote violence should also be banned and the child has to understand that this behavior is wrong.

Finally, the parents should set times when social networking is allowed and when not. This way it is possible to monitor the child’s activities and to ensure that nothing wrong is going on. Monitoring activities includes seeing what kind of sites the child is registered on and to make sure they are age appropriate, as well as to see who your child has on their friend list.
