What To Do To Get Accurate Swot Evaluations

SWOT evaluations pertain to the results of SWOT data assessment. The data used in SWOT Analysis could be a product of brainstorming, research or external advises. These data are then sorted out based on relevance and importance to an organization’s venture. With the simplicity of SWOT Analysis, quick SWOT evaluations can be achieved.

SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. The four respective aspects have their own subtopics that an organization must assess and evaluate in order to reach one single verdict, and that is if the company should push through the venture or not. If so, how will they start, what angles should they focus on, what needs to be improved and how will they ensure the longevity of the business in their target marketplace? All of these questions can be answered through SWOT evaluations. The remaining question is, why do some companies still fail despite having all their needed results?

Basically, the fault lies within the development of the analysis itself. In order to achieve good and accurate SWOT evaluations, there are some things that an organization needs to consider and exercise:

1.The organization should be realistic in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. Some organizations try to lift what they cannot carry, meaning, they have this idealistic view that their company can do everything but the truth is, like a human being, they can’t. Bad SWOT evaluations result from unrealistic point of views, so a company should always provide facts, not fantasies.

2.The analysis should distinguish what your company is today and what you want it to be in the future. Some companies tend to confuse their short and long term goals. The usual outcome is obviously strategy failure which ultimately leads into the venture’s downfall.

3.If you want your SWOT evaluations to be specific, feed your analysis specific ideas. Avoid grey areas as much as possible in order to avoid confusion.

4.Keep the analysis short and simple. Try to avoid complex analysis or the resulting SWOT evaluations will be blurry. Instead of it being helpful, it will just be another scrapbook of unrelated and confusing information.

After you have gathered your SWOT evaluations, know what to do with it. Review it and asses what are the specific conditions and situations that you can exploit while focusing on improving your weak areas. Always remember that SWOT is subjective too. It can change through the course of time, so what works now may not work in the future.

To be safe, always conjunct your SWOT evaluations to other strategic planning tool results. Experts encourage organizations to have other strategic planning tools to interlock with each other in order to maximize your views while maintaining your focus. Some examples of these tools are Porter’s five processes and the PEST Analysis. Usually, it is ideal to conduct a PEST Analysis first before proceeding into using a SWOT Analysis. PEST is pretty much the same as SWOT, but it focuses more on the external view unlike SWOT which uses a company level view.
