What To Wear And Bring To Camp

If your child is attending camp this summer, you may have questions about what he or she should wear and bring. In fact, this is one of the number one questions parents ask the camp director when signing up for camp.

The answer depends on several things, including the type of camp you are sending your child to, any special needs or requirements your child may have, and any rules or regulations the camp goes by or recommends.

In general, if your child is attending day camp (where he or she will attend camp during the day but return home each afternoon), your "packing list" will be much less involved than if your child is attending resident (overnight or sleepaway) camp where they may be living for several weeks at a time.

If your child is going to day camp, then in general, your son or daughter may need a backpack filled with basic supplies such as a swimsuit, towel, lunch and a change of clothes.

But for a resident camp experience, your camper's packing list will be much more involved. They may require suitcases or duffel bags, pillows, toiletries and other living supplies.

What if your child has special medical requirements? For example, many kids take medicine while they're at camp. So if this pertains to your child, be sure to alert the camp director beforehand and send any medications to camp with your child in the original prescription container with a written note describing how and when the medication should be administered along with any other important instructions.

When your child goes to camp, there is a lot to think about and remember. Knowing what to send with your child is an important part of the camp experience. Any camp you choose should provide you with a written checklist of what to wear and bring so you don't forget anything.

Keep the above information in mind and you'll be fine!
