The town of Crewe is based in the county of Cheshire, England. With a population close to 70,000 the place is renowned for its association with railways as it was once home to a key rail network. The Rolls Royce factory was based in Crewe until 2002 but it stopped making them and was taken over by Bentley. Crewe Alexandra FC is the local football club who are in league one and have modest attendances due to larger teams being based nearby.
Crewe’s railway station was made in 1830 and it is this that most of the town has been built around. Surprisingly for a town so small it has 12 platforms with direct links to Liverpool, Cardiff and London. Making the place ideal to live if you are looking to commute as there are plenty of places to rent property in Crewe.
The local council have recently given the go ahead to a massive renovation job on the town centre with over 50% of it looking to be rebuilt for retail outlets and new homes. One of the main attractions in Crewe is the Railway Museum. Unsurprisingly featuring a large variety of steam trains, locomotives and other railway memorabilia. The place can be a real family treat as the children can look around and join in the many activities whilst the parents can have a look around the yards and trains at their own pace or maybe have a cup of tea.
Crewe’s town centre is generally pretty small but has all of the local amenities that you would need plus some of the major retail outlets that are based all around the UK. There are also local outdoor markets that sell fresh localized produce. If you are looking for a nice meal the cleverly named Pi restaurant is well known for fine dining and if you are into your ale then try The Borough arms
