Wheelchair Vehicles: Full Sized Or Mini?

You may have already made the decision to start looking at wheelchair vehicles, and if so, now is the time to make the important decision as to whether or not you will buy a full sized van or a mini van. Just what is the difference? Read on to find out which types of wheelchair vehicles are going to be right for you.

Full Sized

Many years ago, before mini vans became so popular, this was the type of wheelchair vehicles that everyone bought because it was the only choice. While it has become much less popular today, many people do still buy them, and for many reasons.

First of all, they are going to be much roomier. If you want a lot of space, or are traveling with several people, this is going to be an important factor for you. They are also great for traveling, as you will be much more able to put several passengers and all their bags and luggage inside with no problem, and you will still likely have room to move around during your trip. For those who travel, this is an important factor.

Now for the cons. For starters, they are more expensive not only as far as the purchase price, but when it comes to gas mileage as well. And because they don’t make nearly as many of these types of wheelchair vehicles, you may have trouble when it comes to getting it serviced as well.

Mini Vans

For wheelchair vehicles that are more economical, mini vans are the way to go. They are less expensive to purchase and get better gas mileage. They are also much easier to drive and park in the city, so if you are only going to be using your wheelchair vehicle to run errands or drive around town, then this is going to be the best option for you.

Perhaps the biggest reason people choose these besides cost is that they have wheelchair ramps instead of lifts, which many people prefer due to safety and ease of use.

For frequent travelers however, these wheelchair vehicles may not be the best option.

Whatever you decide, the choice is yours to make, and you should take your time to make the best decision you can. A good wheelchair vehicle will last you many years, but if you buy the wrong thing, you may regret it, and it can be tough to fix later on.
