When Did Food Stop Being About Nourishment And Health?
We are such a highly developed culture in lots of ways, however we are such a "sick" society with new "diseases" and new man-made drugs being developed on a regular basis. We don't eat well, we don't pay attention to our bodies our bodies, don't nourish ourselves and then we go to the doctor because we "don't feel well" and what happens? We get prescribed drugs and really don't get any answers and then just continue to feel terrible. How regularly do you have a talk about your eating habits with your physician and actually discuss the foods you have and how they influence how you feel? Do you arrange your meals during the day or week based on decent food choices or is it about satisfying your hunger with whatever is most convenient? Trust me, I feel eating so that you don't feel hungry is important, but I don't feel it is the most critical component of meal preparation. How much protein are you consuming on any given day? What about fruits and vegetables? Do you cook meals prepared with whole foods that have been organically grown or do you take a box out of the cabinet or freezer that is potentially filled with chemicals, additives and preservatives? My purpose is not to sound "preachy" at all, but rather to make you think about what you are putting in your body. I will definitely be the first to state that I don't always make the proper food choices, but I'm a lifelong student of nutrition and will at all times be looking to improve my eating habits. More notably, I consider what I eat and I consider how it affects me and I identify that there is a powerful correlation to what I eat and how I feel. So many of us go through day in and day out feeling exhausted, sluggish and foggy. Perhaps you are suffering from headaches, chronic fatigue, heartburn or IBS, and several of us don't even pause to understand that one of the first things to try in order to fix these problems/symptoms is change the way we eat! I can just hear it now... "there isn't enough time" to cook from scratch, or at least that is the most common mind-set towards eating a better diet and making better choices in what to eat. Well, in my experience we make time for what is most crucial to us. Eating whole, unprocessed foods doesn't require days of preparation and endless time spent in the kitchen...you can have a beneficial meal arranged in less than 30 minutes if you like which is less time than it takes to watch a sitcom. You could even put the tv in the kitchen and then you can do both! Sorry if I came on a bit strong, but I just wanted to get this off my chest...so many people suffer so needlessly!
