When Space Is A Problem

Let's start with bulky coats and jackets. Imagine how much space you can make in any closet by pulling out the coats and jackets. I realize that a lot of houses and apartments do not have a closet in the entry way in which to put them. So I know you are wondering what you are suppose to do with them. For those of you, like me, who do not have an over abundance of empty floor space, hanging them on the wall is the perfect idea. There are wall mounted coat racks for all styles of homes. I actually have one at my front door and one at my back door, and NO bulky jackets or coats in the closets. For those of you lucky enough to have some floor space, even an empty corner, think of adding a free standing coat rack. Even the kids can manage to hang up their jacket as they pass by. Or the kids can have their own in their bedroom and in a kids style. A lot of the free standing coat racks also come with umbrella holders at the bottom. Just think, you are running out the door in the morning (a little late as usual) and your coat and umbrella are there waiting for you. No wasted time trying to find where they got off to.

How about your kitchen? Have room for everything but food? Taking your pots and pans out of the cupboards and hanging them from the ceiling will free up space for boxed and canned foods. For those of you in rentals, you will want to check with the landlord before taking this option. They may agree, but tell you it will need to stay or that you will need to patch the holes when you move out. But there are inexpensive pot hangers out there that if you did leave them behind it would not be a major deal. Just think of the extra room. And those of you who love to cook, you will now have your pots and pans at your fingertips, no digging around in the cupboards for them.

Now, for the bathroom. I have been in some homes where the bathroom is a nice size with unused space AND no linen closet. I often wonder about builders and what they could possibly be thinking. For those of you who own, I would guess you would put in a closet. But those of you who rent? I am guessing you will want to make your home comfortable and appealing, but not spend money on something that will end up benefiting the landlord. There are free standing metal and wooden racks in many different sizes, including corner units, that will do the trick. Also, free standing cabinets, depending on space and the size of your budget.
